Claiborne Joseph “Joe Clay” Cheramie, a world renowned musician and lifelong resident of Gretna, LA passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the age of 78. Beloved husband of the late Jacquelinn Cheramie. Son of the late Clayborne Joseph Cheramie and Nellie Barrios Cheramie. Loving father of Renee Lavin (James), Christy Delgado (Roger, Sr.), Lea Nicole Cheramie and the late Tony Hiatt. Beloved grandfather of Jessica Vercher (Christopher), Roger Delgado, Jr., Daniel Hiatt (Julie), Ashley Menchaca (Alberto), Bradley Kern (Amber) and Jamie Lavin. Survived by 9 great grandchildren. Brother of the late Myrtle Boudreaux, Melvin Cheramie, Morgan Cheramie and Murphy Cheramie. Joe Clay is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a bus driver for Jefferson Parish Schools for over a decade. He became a talented musician at an early age entertaining thousands of people around the world including Japan, Spain and Italy throughout his lifetime. He played with Elvis Presley and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, amongst his many accomplishments. His music has touched the world and will live on forever. “Goodbye Goodbye”.
