Earl J. Madere, MD lived 91 wonderful years and peacefully passed away on March 31, 2023 at his home of natural causes. Earl was born on January 11, 1932 in Hahnville, LA to the late Preston and Clara Keller Madere. Earl was the seventh of twelve children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Patrick Madere, and his siblings Davis Madere, Ann Sellers, James Madere, Roberta Lynch, Mildred Madere, Marion Pizzolato, Dorothy Megas, and Lois Creel.
He is survived by his wife, Clare Altmann Madere, and children Chris (Etsuko) Madere, Julie (Mark) Shreve, and Kelly (Bob) Covington and eight grandchildren, John Patrick Covington, Julia Covington, Mark David Shreve, Allyson (Mike) Bridges, Kelsey (Jordan) LaCaze, Rika Madere, Brittany Madere and Christopher Madere and his beloved great grandchildren Cooper and Blakely LaCaze. Also survived by siblings Clara Fay Madere, Preston Madere and Jan (Dianne) Madere, sister and brother in laws Barbara Weinstein, Carol and Billy Hasenkampf and Suzanne and Jack Casey, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Earl was a Pediatrician on the West Bank of New Orleans for almost 50 years and was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He and partners founded Westside Pediatrics in 1957. He had a true calling to care for children and retired in 2007.
He was an avid gardener with a passion for roses growing over 150 bushes in his backyard for years. He was a member of the New Orleans Rose Society and American Rose Society and won many awards for his prize-winning roses.
He was a very proud LSU Medical School Alumni having graduated in 1957 and an LSU football season ticket holder since 1968. He also loved watching LSU baseball.
Earl also thoroughly enjoyed his time with Busy Bees from Holy Family Church in Luling.
Mass celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2555 Apollo Drive in Harvey, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with Mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna.
