Albert Joseph Lovas of LaPlace, Louisiana passed peacefully with his family by his side on September 13, 2013. He was 78 years of age. Beloved Husband of Faye Sons Lovas. Al was a Barber for 47 years and owner of Al Lovas’ Barbershop in Algiers, Louisiana. He was the loving father of “Bosco” Capt. Les Ledet, Jr. (Kathy Sweeney Ledet) and Kandy Lovas Soeller (Clemens E. “Gene” Soeller Sr., M.D.). He was preceded in death by his parents Abel Joseph Lovas Sr. and Irene Charbonnet Lovas of New Iberia, Louisiana. He is also preceded in death by his brothers: “A.J” Abel Joseph Lovas Jr. (Walene) and Herman Joseph Lovas. He is survived by his twin sister, JoAnn Lovas Willinsky (Arnold Willinsky). Loving brother in law of: Joan Marie Ferrara (Vincent F. Ferrara), Janice Sons Sibley (Joe Sibley) and the late “Buck” Arthur Mathew Simonson, Jr. “Paw Paw” as he was affectionately called by his Grandchildren, whom he dearly loved are: “Capt. Bosco” Lester C. Ledet, III ( Amy Coleman Ledet), Brandy Ledet Ledbetter (fiance’Rob Turley), Lacie Ledet Hogsten (Matt Hogsten), Nicole Claire Ledet, Clemens E. “Gene” Soeller Jr., Ashley Lovas Soeller, Jennifer Kiger, Travis Kiger (Sierra Kiger), Randy Ott and Meghan Ott. Great Grandchildren: Brooklyn Ledbetter, Alexis Ledbetter, Madison Brown, Bailey Ledet, Gavin Ledet and Grace Lovas Soeller. He is preceded in death by his Godchild, Karen Ann Willinsky. Surviving nieces and nephews: Deborah Willinsky Lehrman, Sybil Willinsky Bergeron (Steve Bergeron), Lesley Ferrara Poche (Al Poche’), Arthur Mathew “Buck” Simonson, III, Leslie Brett Simonson (Chanda Simonson). His, lifelong and devoted friends with whom he enjoyed so much: Thomas and Norika Boyer, Julius and Ann Ripp, Charles and Judy Sutherland, Edward and Ha Bayard, Dottie and the late Jack Oser. “Al” was known as the most Amazing, Devoted, Loving, Faithful Husband, Son, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Brother in Law, Friend and Barber to whom that were so Blessed to be touched by his life! Every weekend and holiday was a party! He and his “Baby” Faye would cook up a storm for family and friends, as nothing was ever too much! In his early years and after graduating from Martin Behrman High in Algiers, Louisiana (native) he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 218 and the Gretna Sportsmen’s Club. Al graduated from New Orleans Barber School where he obtained the designation, “Master Barber”. In 1960, he bought a home in Aurora Gardens of Algiers, Louisiana (as a wedding gift to his sweetheart) and married the “Love of His Life”, Faye Sons. They were thrilled to start their family with Bosco and then Kandy. He was so proud, to open Al Lovas’ Barbershop in Algiers in 1970 where he faithfully practiced his craft; rain, sleet, flood or even snow. In 1978, he moved his family to Eden Isles in Slidell, Louisiana where they lived for over 25 years. As, he continued with his Barbershop in Algiers, he so enjoyed living on the water; cruising, fishing and crabbing on Lake Pontchartrain, perched atop the “Southern Comfort”. He dearly LOVED: Family, Friends, being a Barber, New Orleans, Cooking, Rock and Roll, a good stiff Drink( or two or three!!!!!!!!!) his precious pets: (Missy, Mea and Happi) Jogging (on the Algiers levee or in Eden Isles), LSU & the Saints (play by play VERY loudly & VERY passionately) and just life in general. Every day was a GREAT day for this charming and inspiring man who lit up the room with his amazing energy and smile!!!! In 2004, He and Faye retired to Hope, Arkansas where he enjoyed his family and farming and then to LaPlace, La. Life here, will never be the same without YOU!!!! We are now absolutely sure that Heaven is shining even brighter than ever!! Special thanks, to his brother in law and sister in law, Vince and Joan Ferrara for faithfully and lovingly visiting him, often. Also, the exceptional and extremely caring nursing staff at Twin Oaks, Laplace, La.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 11 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
