Alexander A. Bucher, Sr. passed away on July 11, 2011. He was 90 years of age and resided in Belle Chasse, LA. Beloved husband of 64 years to Joyce Gaudet Bucher. Father of Patrick Bucher (Karen), Alexander A. Bucher, Jr. (Dale), Stephen Bucher, Catherine Telford (John), Suzanne Wolverton (Woody) and Elizabeth Dimiterchik (Michael). Grandfather of John Telford, Jr. (Cory), Lori Voisin (Brent), Rebecca Williams (Cory), Jeffrey Telford (Melanie), Jason Rutter, Jessica Ross (Michael), Jennifer Dorsett (Aaron), Sandy Dimiterchik, Michael Dimiterchik (Lindsey), Patrick Bucher, Amanda Betancourt (Carlos), Alexander Bucher, III (Rebecca), Bradley Bucher, Chelsea Bucher and Candice Bucher. Great-grandfather of Anna Catherine and Alyce Voisin, Madeline Telford, Caroline and Claire Telford, Zoey Williams, Nathan and Parker Ross, Corinne, Alyssa and Sean Dorsett, Addison Betancourt, Evan Bucher, Andrew Betancourt, Alexander Telford and one expectant great-grandson. Brother of the late Pearl Springer, Lucille Freeman, Myrtle LaSavia, Mary Soniat, Henry, George, William and Adolph Bucher. Son of the late Catherine Stouder Bucher and Henry I. Bucher. Alexander served his country as a U.S. Army Ranger during World War II in the European Theater. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Loyola Univ. of New Orleans and his Master’s degree in Education from L.S.U. in Baton Rouge where he served as Cadet Captain of the L.S.U. Tiger Band. He retired as a Plaquemines Parish band director and English teacher, served as President of the Plaquemines Parish School Board and established the Plaquemines Parish Teacher’s Association. He also worked as an insurance broker, was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 6357, was past-president of the Belle Chasse Chapter of A.A.R.P where he was the first Louisiana recipient of the Pinnacle Award, given to those for service to the community. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staffs of Heart of Hospice, Our Lady of Wisdom and St. Luke’s Medical Center for their support and care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 6 PM to 9 PM. Visitation will resume at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Belle Chasse on Friday from 11 AM to 1:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
