Alice Plaisance Bourgeois Biddle

November 30, 1934 – July 14, 2023

On July 14, 2023, Alice died peacefully of natural causes.  She was being visited and comforted by family and friends at the time of her passing.  Alice was 88 years old.

She was born Alice Marguerite Plaisance to Theresa and Jules Plaisance, along with her twin sister Aline.  Alice grew up in Algiers, Louisiana, with her parents and 5 siblings. She married Bruce Charles Bourgeois in 1952.   They had two children, Bonnie and Kenneth.  Alice worked as a real estate agent and then supported Bruce in his general contracting business until his death in 1975.  She continued to run the contracting business for two years after his death.  They had been very active in the Belle Chasse United Methodist Church, helping it transition from being the Belle Chasse Community Church.  She also had been involved in the Homemaker’s Club and her children’s school’s PTO.  The family loved travel and camping.

Alice met John Lester Biddle at a prayer meeting in 1976.  They later married. They were active in the Gretna United Methodist Church and helped raise funds to build the church sanctuary.  John was a member of the Masons and Alice participated in many of their activities with him. Alice and John traveled frequently. She would often reminisce about their wonderful adventures.  At home Alice loved cooking and needlecraft. 

John passed away in 2008. In 2009 Alice moved to Sonoma, California, to live with her daughter and her family.  She adored her two grandchildren, Jonathan and Christopher Marshall.  She became a member of the Sonoma United Methodist Church.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents Theresa and Jules Plaisance, siblings (Aline, Ludgar, David, and Danny Plaisance; and Berthel Lopez), husbands John Biddle and Bruce Bourgeois, and son Kenneth Bourgeois.  She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Bourgeois Marshall, son-in-law John Marshall, grandsons Jonathan and Christopher Marshall, and step-son Bruce Colby. 

Visitation will be from 9:30 am-11:00 am followed by an 11:00 am funeral service. They will both be at the Gretna United Methodist Church, 1309 Whitney Ave., Gretna, LA. Internment will take place immediately afterwards at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Ave., Gretna, LA.
