Alida Ann "Lee" Bourgeois

November 11, 1938 — August 3, 2024

Bush

Alida Ann “Lee” Dewey Bourgeois passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, with family by her side. She was 85 years of age. Lee was born the youngest of four children to parents Paul and Alida Dewey on November 11, 1938, in New Orleans, LA. She briefly worked as a switchboard operator in Gretna before marrying her beloved husband, Philip Paul “Boogie” Bourgeois Jr. They were married over 60 years. Not long after starting a family, they moved to Houston, Texas for 10 years before moving back to Louisiana and settling in Bush, LA to raise their family. Lee affectionally known as “Ma” or Grandma was a homemaker most of her life. She loved her children, grandchildren, but most of all had an even greater love for her four great-grandsons who she helped raise. Shortly after her husband’s retirement, they opened J & D Small Engine Repair with their youngest son Jason. After 10 years they retired to spend more time with family, take their RV on trips, and spend time at their camp in Grand Isle, LA. Lee loved going to the casinos on the gulf coast with the hopes of winning it big! When she was home, you either found her working in the yard tending to her plants or inside cooking a family meal. She made the best rice dressing! She was a huge Elvis Presley and New Orleans Saints fan. She had a large memorabilia collection of each. Lee is survived by her sons, Justin Patrick Bourgeois and Jason Theodore Bourgeois. Her grandchildren, Ashley B. Beaver (husband Beau), Philip Bourgeois IV, Kimberly Bourgeois, Joshua Bourgeois, Darian B. Ottmers (husband Ryan), Megan Bourgeois and Alivia Bourgeois. Great-grandchildren, Kaiden Adams, Camden Bourgeois, Elenora Easley, Mason Bourgeois, Barrett Easley, Lydia Easley and Grandmas “little boo”, Carter Bourgeois. Her sisters-in-law, Marjorie Broome (Carl) and Linda B. Comeaux (Lloyd), along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. Lee also leaves behind her cherished pets Lexy and Kitty. Alida is preceded in death by her husband Philip Paul “Boogie” Bourgeois Jr.; son, Philip Paul Bourgeois III, parents Paul Joseph Dewey and Alida Marie Loland Dewey. Her siblings, Gustave Dewey, Joesph Paul Dewey (the late Joy) and Barbara Dewey Green (the late John) and her niece, Christine “Chris” Simmons. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, LA on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11am. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, August 8, 2024 from 6pm until 8pm and again on Friday morning from 9am until 11am. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Interim Hospice, her nurse Chris and aid, Alissa for all they did to help keep Mom comfortable and at peace in her final days. Pallbearers will be Ashley Beaver, Kimberly Bourgeois, Beau Beaver, Darian Bourgeois, Megan Bourgeois and Alivia Bourgeois. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kaiden Adams, Camden Bourgeois and Mason Bourgeois. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. “Oh, when the Saints go marching in, yes, I want to be in that number!”
