Althea Williams Savoie

January 21, 1935 — February 16, 2017

Althea Williams Savoie left this Earth to go with Our Lord in Heaven on February 16, 2017 at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Philip Savoie; daughter, Pamela Savoie Llewellyn; parents, Melvin and Josephine “Josie” Williams; brother, Anthony Melvin “Willie” Williams and loving sister Sherron Williams LeBlanc. Althea is mother of daughter, Stephanie Savoie Pierce (Craig); son, Craig Philip Savoie (Kim) and son, Brian David Savoie. She is Granny to Craig Anthony Pierce Jr. (Dorsey), Courtney Pierce Ritter, Kelly Savoie Samora (Robert), Craig Philip Savoie Jr., Kasi Savoie Steele (Scott), Ashleigh Savoie Mike (Anthony), Daniel Whayne Llewellyn, Erin Leah Savoie, and Alix Margaret Savoie. She is Great Granny to Caylyn Ann Ritter, Cayleigh Pamela Ritter, Robert Samuel Samora, Oden Anthony Pierce, Anthony Joseph Mike, Sophia Rose Samora, Jude Lyn Pierce, Tyler Anthony Mike, Olivia Jane Steele and Roman Anthony Samora. She is Ray Ray to Caiden Philip Savoie. She is Nanny Granny to Paul Norman LeBlanc III, Shari LeBlanc Lange (Troy) and Alexis Ann Lange. She is loved by many others that she considered her “adopted” children, grandchildren and great grandchildren through her many years. Althea was born in Marrero Louisiana, grew up, married Floyd and raised her family there. She was retired from the Jefferson Parish School Board (1996) where she spent 30+ years as an Administrative Assistant to many, of which 20 years was to the Principals at John Ehret High School in Marrero. After retirement, she was a tour guide in the French Quarter; a part time secretary for a special needs program and the church newsletter. She also volunteered in many prayer groups, Mary’s Helpers at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and actively served as a member and mentor in the ovarian cancer support group at Touro Hospital. A huge sports fan, she loved her Saints, LSU Tigers and any music, sports or academic activity that the grandkids and great grandkids were participating in. She rarely missed a family event. When younger, she loved to dance, host family gatherings, go camping, spend time with friends and travel. She and Floyd took many trips and cruises and she hardly ever passed up an opportunity to have fun. Mostly though, Althea lived for her family and friends. Her love, support and acceptance of all was immeasurable. She was a most loving and kind person, who would put everyone first, above herself. She will be deeply missed by many, but forever loved by all who had the honor of knowing her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Visitation on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a Memorial Mass to follow in the Chapel of Mothe’s Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy. Harvey LA 70058. Internment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna Louisiana where Althea’s remains will be united with those of her beloved daughter Pamela. The family would like to thank AmeraCare Family Hospice for their compassionate and impeccable support and care during her last days. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Althea’s name to the New Orleans Mission. She was the living definition of giving to those in need.
