Alvin L. Ehret, Sr. entered into eternal rest on April 7, 2016. A lifelong resident of Gretna, LA, Mr. Ehret was 96. Beloved husband of the late Letha Pares Ehret. Adored Father of Linda Ehret LaBorde (the late Gerald LaBorde, Sr.) and Alvin L. Ehret, Jr. (the late Mary Ehret). Proud grandfather of G.T. LaBorde, Jr. and loving great grandfather of Kate LaBorde. Brother of the late Evelyn Orgeron (the late Norman), Louis Ehret, Jr. (the late Mary Lou), Helen Bach (the late Eugene, Jr.) and the late Ivy Ehret (Norma). Brother-in-law of the late William Pares, Jr. (Doris). Son of the late Louis V. Ehret and Elvine Prejean Ehret Burke. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Ehret was a former member of the Gretna Sportsmen’s Club. He was a member of the Gretna Historical Society and the Friends of the German-American Cultural Center. He served on the Financial Advisory Committee of the St. Joseph Church and Shrine on the West Bank in Gretna. From that parish, he received the St. Louis Medallion. Mr. Ehret was a Veteran of World War II. Special thanks to the Heart of Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. A Very special thanks to Donna and especially Blanca who were his sitters and became part of his family. In lieu of flowers, Masses would be appreciated. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6th Street, Gretna, LA on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 9AM until 10AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10AM. Interment will be in Hook and Ladder Cemetery, Gretna, LA. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
