Andrew D. Blanchard of Bridge City, LA passed away on Sunday, June 7th, at the age of 84, having battled glioblastoma multiforme with indomitable spirit for the past 5 ½ months. Andrew leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Marion Ford Blanchard, and his five children, Darlene Chimento (Jake), Gary Blanchard (Paulette), Lynn Nettleton, Cathy Blanchard, and Danny Blanchard (Debbie), as well as 6 grandchildren, 7 great-children, and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
A machinist by trade, Andrew retired as an assistant superintendent from Avondale Shipyards after 39 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, regularly enjoying hunting and fishing -- especially his endless pursuit of sac-au-lait. He spent the latter part of his life spreading the word of God as a lay minister, worshipping and teaching at First Assembly of God Church in Metairie. He was also an active member of Gideons International.
Andrew’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Ochsner’s Canon Hospice Center who lovingly tended to him in his final days. Services will be held on Thursday, June 11th at Mothe’s Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd in Marrero. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., and a service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Interment at Restlawn cemetery in Avondale, LA will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Louisiana Teen Challenge, P.O. 73681, Metairie, LA 70033, in memory of Andrew Blanchard.
