Angelo Samuel Costa, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the age of 81. He was born in Independence, LA on June 12, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA. He was the son of Italian immigrants, the late Angelo S. Costa, Sr. and Josephine Sparacina. Angelo was the beloved and loving husband of Dolores LeNormand Costa. Brother of Joseph “Joe” Costa Sr. and the late Frances Di Benedetto, Mary Solomon and Angelina Di Benedetto. He was the former husband of Lois DeRoche Costa. The Father of Glenn Costa (Paula Arnold) and Gary Costa (Dr. Peggy Chehardy). Step Father of Karen N. Theriot (Robert) and the late Sal Noto, Jr. (survived by wife Hope). Grandfather of Duston Costa (Shelley), Marla Moody (James), Serah Costa, Richard Costa and Jeremy Costa (Megan). Step Grandfather of Christy T. Buquoi (Terry), Robert Theriot (Connie), Amy Noto LaGrone and Laura Chiasson. Angelo is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. He retired in 1982 from Avondale Shipyard. He opened Saxon Machine Tools, Inc and Coslo, Inc. He was inducted into the Westbank Musicians Hall of Fame in 2006. His first paying performance was on the Westbank with Chief Rainwater at King’s Restaurant and the Moonlight Inn. Over the years, he had the opportunity to play with many fine musicians on the East and West Bank. To mention a few: Lee Cannatta, Herb Tassin, Ed and Bob Varnado, “Toxie” Baughman, Huey Bourgeois, Earl Ortego, Sr. “Smitty” Eskine, Bobby Tuttle, Harold Guidry, “Curley” Langley, Allen “Blackie” Parks and Johnny Savoie. Some of the clubs where he performed included the 509 Club (Myrt and Vic’s) in Algiers, the Wego Inn in Westwego, and several clubs on Bourbon Street. He studied engineering and metallurgy at Delgado College and Loyola University. Services will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA. Visitation will be Monday, December 2, 2013 from 10AM until 1PM. Funeral Services immediately following in the Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
