Anthony "Tony" John Ting

January 10, 1944 — October 7, 2011

Anthony “Tony” John Ting, Jr., left this world and entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 7th 2011. He was a native of Harvey, Louisiana and a lifelong resident of Lafitte, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony J. Ting, Sr. and Carrie Arabie Ting, and a sister Ernestine “Teen” Ting. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 35 years Nancy Spencer Ting, three daughters and eight grandchildren. They are: Toshia Ting Aubin (Roy) and her children, Peyton Aubin and Carson Aubin; Tammy Osborne Friloux (Jarrod) and her children, Tylor Thomas Lenart, Aiden “Blue” Friloux and Ava Cheri Friloux; and Lisa Osborne Adams (Doyle “D.J.”) and her children, Christopher Schexnayder, Matthew Adams and Austin Adams. He is survived by four siblings: Louis Ting (Geraldine), Ronald Ting (Elizabeth), and Deborah Ting Strausbaugh (Ed), and Bruce Ting (Connie).His music career began at the age of 14 years old playing on the streets of the French Quarter. He was an alumnus of West Jefferson High School and graduated in 1962. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he participated as a drummer in the Tiger Marching Band. He served in the United States Air Force in the Capacity of Intelligence Communicator. He returned to Louisiana and embarked on a successful career in oilfield pump engineering while continuing to play music professionally as a side career. During his 20 years as a professional drummer, he played in numerous bands as well as nightclubs throughout the French Quarter and other local venues and clubs in New Orleans. He shared his talent and love of music while entertaining the troops overseas. He was instrumental in bringing the Cajun culture and music to festivals throughout the United States. The highlight of his music career was his induction into the West Bank Musicians Hall of Fame in 2007. He was the co-owner of the Bayou Barn in Crown Point, Louisiana, along with his wife Nancy Ting. As such he gave many hours and donations to various organizations of which he was a strong advocate such as: the HUGS foundation (for Downs Syndrome and special needs children); Cancer Awareness Fund Raisers; Church Fundraisers, etc… He was a member of the Louisiana Travel & Promotional Association, West Bank Musicians Association, Louisiana Restaurant Association and the Disabled American Veterans. His personality drew many friends and he never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by all that loved him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd. (corner Westwood Drive), Marrero, LA on Monday, October 10, 2011 from 6 PM to 9 PM, resuming on Tuesday from 8 AM to 11 AM. A Mass will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11AM. Interment will take place at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna, LA. For funeral information, please call 504-366-4343.
