Augustin Joseph “Buddy” Fitzwilliam, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Buddy is survived by his three daughters, Julie Ann, Kathleen Hebert (Eddie) and Jane Farve (Armand), his grandchildren, Austin Edward Fitzwilliam Hebert and Rosalie Maxine Farve. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Ann Webb Fitzwilliam and parents, Estelle Humphrey Carey and Augustin J. Fitzwilliam, Sr. and loving stepfather, Mark O. Carey, Sr. Buddy was a graduate of Holy Cross High School where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams. He attended The University of Southwestern Louisiana and was then drafted into the US Army where he served his country honorably as a Corporal during the Korean War. As a lifelong resident of Algiers Point, LA and more recently, Metairie, LA, Buddy was a member of Algiers Little Theater and the Carnival Krewe of Alla. Buddy was an active parishioner of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church serving as lector for many years. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, Santa Maria Council, The Ancient Order of Hibernians and The American Legion, Post 377 in Kenner, LA. Buddy was a dedicated employee of Buck Kreihs Marine Repair where he was a Timekeeper. The family wishes to express thanks and appreciation to the staff of The War Veterans Home in Reserve, LA for their care of Buddy these last six months. Sincere thanks as well to Fr. Mike Kettenring for his spiritual counsel and weekly visits to Buddy.
Services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Vallette St., Algiers, LA 70114. Visitation will be from 11:30am to 1pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and internment at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Buddy’s name to Magnolia Community Services 100 Central Ave., Jefferson, LA 70121.
