Austin David Matte passed away on September 9, 2012 at the age of 75 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Myrtis Quibodeaux Matte; children, Patrick “Gil” Matte (wife Kathy), Rachel Marvin (husband Willie), Darren “D. D.” Matte (wife Cathy) and Traci Mouton; grandchildren, Gerald “T. J.” Duplechien, Josh Duplechien, Stefanie Adam, Chris Matte, Melanie Melancon, Allison and Dodie Matte, Donald, Dylan, Devin and Madison Mouton, Lauren and Miranda Marvin; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Peyton, Lacy Ann and Briannah; his brother, Elvin Matte and sister, Loraine Matte and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Edna Thibodeaux Matte; brother, Louis “June” Matte; two children, Randall “Randy” Matte and Tammy Adam and his grandson, Jason Matte.
He retired from Freeport Sulphur Company for over 30 years and later owned and operated Matte’s Lounge. He served his community as a member of the Port Sulphur Volunteer Fire Department where he served as chairman of the annual fair for over 20 years and may be best recognized as the department’s “Santa Claus”, entertaining the young and old of the community. He also served on the Board of the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association for over 13 years and as the Board’s President in 1980.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 10 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow.
