Belinda Smith Knowles

Belinda Smith Knowles passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late William O. Knowles, Sr. Loving mother of William “Bill” O. Knowles, Jr., Kenneth M. Knowles (Laurie) and Christopher D. Knowles. Daughter of the late Isabell Smith and Herschel Smith, Sr. Sister of Larry Smith, Sherry Kraus and the late Herschel Smith, Jr. and James Smith. Grandmother of William O. Knowles III, Kristyn K. Dadlez, Alexandra O. Knowles, Elizabeth K. Cowart, Caroline K. Landry and Kennedie Knowles. Great Grandmother of Eleanor “Nora”, Theodore “Teddy”, Oliver, James and Christopher. She will be dearly missed by Angela Knowles White and Mara Hauser. Belinda was a native of San Antonio, Texas and a lifelong resident of Algiers, Louisiana. Belinda participated as a volunteer fundraiser for Jo Ellen Smith and Meadowcrest Hospitals, Women’s Auxiliaries, Longue Vue Gardens and Chef’s Charity at St. Michael’s School. Belinda later enrolled at New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts where she spent countless years painting and studying under the direction of Auseklis Ozols and many other mentors and friends whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 500 Eliza Street, Algiers, LA on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 9AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church on Monday at 11AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, Louisiana.
