Bengt Gunnar Andersson passed away on December 14, 2014. He was 83, a native of Sweden, and a resident of New Orleans since 1972. Bengt was preceded in death by his wife, Lisbeth. He is survived by his son, Matts Andersson, and his daughter, Lena Andersson. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Tammy, and granddaughter Jourdan, his sisters Elisabeth Bennerstål and Anastina Höber, his niece, nephews, and their families. A mechanical engineer, Bengt worked in the shipbuilding industry in Sweden and Canada before immigrating to the United States, settling with his family in New Orleans. An ardent Jazz lover from his early teens, Bengt founded a Jazz club in Sweden, met Louis Armstrong, his idol, twice, and was an active member of the New Orleans Jazz Club for many years. He was also an active member of the Norwegian Seamen’s Church, D-Day Museum, and supported local animal shelters and veterans organizations. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 2 PM at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church, 1772 Prytania St., New Orleans, LA 70130.
