Bertin John Schwegmann, Sr.

Bertin John Schwegmann, Sr. better known as Joe or Pawpaw, age 90, died peacefully at his home Thursday, October 22, 2015. He leaves his son, Bertin (Johnny) Schwegmann, Jr. and his wife Barbara Deville Schwegmann; his daughter, Barbara Schwegmann Guidry and her husband Dennis Guidry; 9 grandchildren, Stacey Schwegmann Leonhard, Dawn Schwegmann Lindstrom, Bertin (Beau) Schwegmann III, Heath Guidry, Karen Stevenson Cunningham, Tim Stevenson and Gracie Stevenson Pidgett; 2 sisters, Claire Thibodeaux and Mary Louise Adolph, along with 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Willys Mae Landry Schwegmann; his parents, Martin Schwegmann Sr. and Nettie Bertin Schwegmann; his 5 brothers, Gus, Buck, Martin, Edmond and Frank Schwegmann; 1 daughter, Helen Dupantis Stevenson Brooks; 1 Grandson, Chris Stevenson and 1 Great Grandson, Aaron Vreland. He served honorably in the US Army in WWII during the Japanese Campaign. After serving, he worked for Schlumberger Oilfield Services for several years but left to work in a family business, Norwood Dairy, delivering milk to the uptown area of New Orleans. He finished his working career in the oilfield industry in sales and customer relations. He and Mae traveled and enjoyed life to the fullest after retirement. If you ask Joe what was the best job he had, he would have answered it was being Pawpaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom many were lucky enough to recently celebrate his 90th birthday with him. Joe was a member of the Supreme Masonic Council Southern Jurisdiction where he achieved the high honor of 33rd degree Mason. While active, he participated in many community service projects. Funeral Services will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Family visitation will be held 9AM until 10AM with friends being invited to attend 10AM until 1PM. A Prayer Service will be conducted prior to burial at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Pallbearers for the services are Dennis Guidry, Heath Guidry, Beau Schwegmann, Robert Schwegmann, Tim Leonhard and Jack Leonhard.
