Betty Finch Marks passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Wilson Marks; Son, James W. Marks, Jr.; Brother, Charles Finch (Survived by Diane) and Sister, Martha Lee. Daughter of the later Alfred Finch and Nelle Watson Finch. Survived by her daughter, Linda M. Kim (Melvin). Grandmother of Michael J. Kim (Sarah), Jennifer K. Love (Ben) and Jonathan W. Kim (Brittany). Great Grandmother of Gavin, Katherine, Bob, Lucy, Elliot and Josie. She is also survived by her brothers, Thomas E. Finch, Sr. (Martha) and Jerry Finch (Safrona) along with numerous nieces and nephews. Age 91, a native of Ruby South Carolina and a resident of Harvey, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Appalachian State Teacher’s College, and she received a Masters of Education from the University of New Orleans. Her teaching career extended in several states, beginning in North Carolina, Virginia, California and ending in Jefferson Parish. She was a beloved gifted and talented teacher at Woodmere Elementary School for many years. She received outstanding Teacher of America twice. She also received Elementary Teacher of the Year in Jefferson Parish. She was Vice President of Phi Delta Kappa from 1994-1996 and she was President of Phi Delta Kappa from 1996-1998. Outside of her teaching career, she was President of Camp Pendleton Officer Wives Club from 1975-1976. During this time she also completed courses to become a Qualified Real Estate Agent in California. Her daughter would like to extend her eternal gratitude to her Mother’s Caregivers, LaTescia, LaDonna, and Sheranda from Valencia Sitter Services whom she could not have managed without these ladies in the last 10 months. She was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church and Christ Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Southern Baptist Seminary or Samaritan Purse or any other Billy Graham Organization. Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 11AM until 1:30PM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:30PM. Interment will be in Weswtlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, Louisiana.
