Blanche Horan Buffone

Blanche Horan Buffone passed peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at her home in Gretna, LA at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sadie Horan, and her husband of 48 years, Salvadore Joseph Buffone, Jr., with whom she raised eight children. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Louis (Jay) Guidroz, and then by her loving companion, Howard Chaisson. She is survived by her children, Carol Ann Buffone, Warren A. Buffone (Linda), Marlene Buffone Haydel (Jeff), Susie Buffone McCartney (Danny), Salvadore J. Buffone, III (Mary), Annette “Diane” Buffone, Denise Michelle Buffone, Arleen Buffone Garretti (Tony) as well as 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be forever missed by her poodles, Coco, Coal and Bella (who was her constant companion until the very end).
Along with her husband Junior and sister in law, Doris Boffone she successfully started and ran Progressive Barge Line, which is still operated by family today. She was an accomplished dancer, seamstress and was known as a world-class shopper. She spent many days traveling across America, Canada, Mexico and Europe, which she enjoyed completely. She was involved with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, a lifetime board member of the Krewe of Grela and was involved in many civic and community organizations.
Relatives and friends are invited to join her family to honor and celebrate her life. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, LA 70058 on Monday, January 6, 2014. Public visitation will be from 10AM until 1:30PM. Family visitation begins at 9AM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the funeral home’s chapel at 1:30PM. Interment will follow at McDonogh Cemetery, in Gretna, where she will join her husband Junior Buffone in his family tomb.
