Burnell Stewart

Burnell Stewart entered enteral rest on July 9, 2024. He was born on September 16, 1942 in New Orleans, LA and lived in New Orleans.

Burnell served his country with honor and distinction as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968, during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Silver Rose medal for his service. He was devoted father, always putting his children first and providing them with love, support, and guidance. He went back to school to get his degree, attending Delgado Junior College, and in 1977 became fire fighter, stationed in New Orleans East, until his retirement.

Burnell's life was a testament to the strength of character and the importance of family. He remained in his hometown of New Orleans, where he built lasting memories with his loved ones. He was a man of integrity and kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need.

Burnell lives on through his children Gabriel Miller, Yolanda Miller, Joseph Breaux and Dwayne Stewart, and his grandchildren Porsha Johnson, Troy and Kanin Garner, Justin and Kaylani Miller.

He is survived by his siblings Brenda Williams, Jacqueline Sims, Clarence Stewart, Donna Blaylock, and Donald Stewart; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest Stewart and Florence Allen Stewart, his siblings Edward Marshall Stewart, Elouise Lindsey, Rosalie Stewart, Catherine Ferrand, Merial “Maymae” Bercy, and Lawrence “Mooky” Stewart and his son Joseph Breaux's mother Anna Lee Breaux.

A funeral service will be held on Monday July 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.in the Chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway in Harvey. Interment will follow at S.E. Louisiana Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Rd in Slidell with Military Honors at 1:30 p.m. sharp.
