Captain Thomas James Chatman, age 60, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 17, 2024. Thomas accepted the Lord at an early age. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,Inc. And graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Science. He then joined the United States Army and was promoted to Captain. After serving in the military he then began his career with Sears and retired after 20 years. He then joined the Home Depot team until present. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ret. Sergeant First Class Leroy Chatman and Priska Chatman of Gautier, MS. Grandson of the late James and Hattie Chatman of Moss Point, MS and the late Franzi and Elfriede Alex of Germany. Nephew of the late Chief Warrant Officer Cecil Chatman of El Paso, TX and the late Melva Chatman of Pasc, MS. Cousin of the late Patrolman William Banks Jr of Moss Point, MS, Marvin Chatman of El Paso, TX, Angie of Seaside, CA, and Yolanda of Moss Point, MS. Beloved husband of Vernelle Stepfather of Antoine (Joyce) Atl, GA Brother-in-law of Ruby (George) Bell, AL, and Kimberly Chatman of Gulfport, MS. Brother of Petra Chatman of Fayetteville, NC and Carlos Chatman of Gulfport, MS. Uncle of Izaiah, Caleb, Christian, Edwin, and Khloe. Also survived by a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins. Thomas was a lifelong huge “Diehard Fan” of the Washington Redskins (Commanders). The family appreciates all the outpouring of love, prayers, and support through the darkest days and hours.
Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 8:30 AM until 11 AM. Interment with Army Funeral Honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS at 1:30 PM.
