Casey Wm. Jones (Mr. Bill) passed away on September 6, 2012. He was born in Everton, MO on April 1, 1924 to Dona and Earl Jones. Casey attended schools in Kansas City, MO and joined the United States Navy and served his country in World War II. He was stationed stateside at the Eighth Naval District in Algiers, LA as a Ship's Store Cook (B), First Class USN -1. His service includes (vessels and stations served on): NRS KANSAS CITY MO, NTS GREAT LAKES, IL, RS NEW ORLEANS, LA, NAVAL SECTION BASE, NEW ORLEANS, LA, USN OF NAVY 120, REC STA MIAMI, FL, RS TADCEN CAMP ELLIOTT SAN DIEGO, CA, USS ACCOMAC, US PERSTRACOM NAV REP BASE, NEW ORLEANS, LA. He worked for an independent grocer in Algiers for 4 years and an independent grocer in Gretna for 15 years. He and his wife Margie, established their own business in 1964 on Fifth St. in Gretna, LA and also a second location in Algiers in 1968. Since moving to the Westside Shopping Center in 1974, Casey Jones Super Market continues to serve the community for over 48 years.
He is married to the former Margie Kirk for 65 years. They have one son, Kirk, who after graduating from LSU started working with his father for the past 30 years. He is survived by his brother Homer Dean Jones of Bally Duff, Ireland. He has two nephews, Robert Cozzens and Michael Jones and many relatives in Missouri, California and Oklahoma and Bally Duff.
He was honored by Mayor Ronnie Harris for his loyalty and service to the community. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and had the opportunity to go on an African Safari in 1972. In his retirement he enjoyed his cattle ranch in Wiggins, MS for 20 years. He was a member of the West Bank Lions Club and served on the boards of Affiliated Food Stores and the former Lafayette Savings & Loan.
The family extends their gratitude and special thanks to his caregivers, Geraldine Sims and Kim Heng and also the staff of Willowwood at Woldenberg Village. Your compassionate care of Casey will always be remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 10 AM to 2 PM. A Liturgical Service of the Word will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
