June 15, 2012 marks the final mooring of Commander Lewis Bryan Blackburn. Cdr. Blackburn joined the United States Navy upon his graduation from Southwest Texas State University. He served multiple tours in the Vietnam War and achieved the prestigious rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy. He continued his love for the seas and vessels that travel them, working in the private sector as a Marine Surveyor. Cdr. Blackburn closed his professional career working for the U.S. Maritime Administration where he received an outstanding Achievement Award. His duties involved the overseeing and directing of maintenance and upgrading of the vessels that bring our military to places where they are needed. Cdr. Blackburn travelled the world, he worked and lived in many countries including the United States of America, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia. Cdr. Blackburn was married to the late Ann Marie Hughes and his legacy lives on through both of his sons Sean Bryan and Eagle Scout Jason Hughes. As a family they lived on two continents and visited dozens of countries throughout the world. His son Sean is married to Dana Blackburn with three children; Adam, Nathan and Amanda. Cdr. Blackburn is survived by his loving wife June Donahue Blackburn, they resided in Bay St.Louis, MS where they both enjoyed a full and vibrant life and surrounding themselves with many very genuine friends. They are survived by Dennis J. Bourgeois, Stephanie B. Fowler and Samantha R. Fowler. Cdr. Blackburn surrounded himself with great people, a genuine love for the sea and a continued drive to live life to the fullest. He strived on a daily basis to provide for all and had a genuine quest to make everyone happy. This was a quest that he valiantly succeeded at. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 1:30PM.
