And it came to pass on Friday the 12th day of August 2011 Cecil T. Bennett 87, embraced the spiritual world to rest. Cecil, better known as Pa-Paw "Bird" was a Veteran of World War II Iwo Jima. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy. All of his five brothers were servicemen. His oldest brother was buried in Germany. Cecil's obedience and heroism to his country during war time is unwordable. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, American Aree Ribbon, Asietic Pacific Ribbon ( Bronze Star) and the Presidential Citation Ribbon ( 1 Bronze Star). Received an Honorable Discharge in 1946 from he Navel Services of the United States in New Orleans. After discharge the Naval Hero continued to serve his country, a entrepreneur,contractor, restaurant owner and seasoned as the neighborhood Pa-Paw.
A former Alabamian, one of nine children of which two (2) survived siblings are Mary J. Miller of Cullman, Alabama and Dwight P. Bennett of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Cecil, Pa-Paw " Bird" an Alabamian who had a prevailing Southern Hospitality character and whose home gave way to the protruding stomach and a place where you could eat and drink the most and suffer the least. Home made hot biscuits , corn bread, hot coffee, the art of red beans and rice recollected by his Orleanian friends and neighbors not to mention his hardworking, generous, friendly and pleasant humor. In his final (65) sixty-five years as a resident of Louisiana, Cecil Travis Bennett named after his uncle Travis was not only accepted as a epicure( delight) will be missed and remembered as a cocktail of Louis-I-Bamian hero.
