Celia Sandroni Cuicchi passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the age of 90. She
was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Lee Cuicchi, in 2007; parents Marino and Maria Sandroni, and brothers, Gay, Orelio, Bruno, Melio, Willie, Orlando, and Raymond Sandroni. She is survived by her children James (Laura) Cuicchi, David (Leslie) Cuicchi, Richard (Mary) Cuicchi, Lisa (Keith) Gardner, and Nell (Jim) Palistrant. She was “Nonna” (Italian for grandmother) to 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Celia was born in Shaw, MS. She and Lee raised their five children on their farm in Shaw and lived there until they moved to Terrytown, LA in 2000. She was a very active member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Shaw and continued her service to the Church when she moved to Terrytown. She and her husband joined Christ the King Catholic Church, and she served as a Lector for many years. She was a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the CTK Women’s Club, a CTK Prayer Group, and volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at Ochsner Meadowcrest Hospital. In 2012 she was awarded the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion by the Archbishop for her devotion to the Church.
Celia cherished family vacations in Orange Beach, AL for over 30 years. She will be remembered by many for her love of cooking and baking. Her children especially recall family favorites including several homemade pastas and gravy, pizzelles, and anise cookies. She also enjoyed time spent playing cards and socializing with her friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Rd, Terrytown, LA, on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 10:30 am to Noon. A Funeral Mass will follow. Internment is at Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, c/o Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Rd, Terrytown, LA, 70056. Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Shaw, MS at a later date.
