Lt. Col. Charles Andres Iii

April 28, 1923 — August 3, 2016

Lt. Colonel Charles Andres III (Retired, US Army); 4-28-1923 to 08-03-2016. You loved to fish, no matter where nor when. You taught us to cast as a left hander, not realizing the difference of handedness, until I was old enough to buy a rod and reel! You probably wet your first line with your father, PaJoe (too young to be called Grandpa),known to others as Charles Andres Jr. down at Lake Hermitage in Plaquemines Parish or with your mother,Blanche Hotard Andres off the end of the pier as the tide rose or fell, a few inches off the bottom so Sheepshead nibbles could be felt. Those were moments for you that cemented your love for life, nature, and family. You always did create a family adventure. I still have that ceramic rearing horse fished out of a rushing stream in Germany, cleaned, and placed upon my pillow. You placed one item on each of our freshly made beds in an otherwise sterile room. So, when son Charles IV, daughters,Tata(Mildred), and Cynthia McGee arrived to new housing overseas, each would have one interesting item and a story of your adventure to go with it. Your wife, Mildred Martha Andrews Andres will always be the right to your left, after sixty-nine years of marriage-from WWII to the present; both WWII Veterans. Although you had no siblings, your friendships were very precious to you. You served your country admirably, as a WWII Purple Heart Veteran and career USArmy Officer; you served your community as well, as a Lake Hermitage Volunteer Fire Dept. member and Treasurer; volunteered for the 4-H Club Plaquemines Parish as Chaperone; and giving Recycling talks and demonstrations at our local parish schools among other activities. You were a fisherman, a storyteller, a humorist, a teacher of life's lessons, husband, father, and father-in-law to Randy McGee. Your sense of humor remained throughout your lifetime, like your father before you. After 93 years you again slept peacefully at home with family, but then awoke into the arms of family and friends, who did await you. Until it is our time, we will see you in the night sky, fishing the stream pouring from the Big Dipper. Thanks to AmeraCare Hospice; CVS#8921; Doctors: Newman, Le, Molina, Kerut, Jones, Sheahan, Pippin, Puente, Glass, Frisbee; and a very special thanks to Cathy King and Tonya Stigler, whose dedication and love continues to see us through this daily journey. The celebration of Charles' life will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 9-11am; Service follows 11-11:30am: Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway; Harvey, LA. A Motorcycle Escort from Mothe Funeral Home to the cemetery will be provided by Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Office(PPSO). Big thanks!
