Charles Michael Clark, age 86 peacefully passed away on April 27, 2024. 


Mr. Clark, a longtime resident of Westwego, LA was born November 23, 1937, in Houston, Texas. Charles is survived by his beloved wife Carmen Marie Clark (nee Baggesse), brother James Keith Clark (Donna), and children: Christine Robertson (Paul), Mike Clark (Karen), Craig Clark (Melody), and Annie Clark (Dean). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Taylor George (Austin), Tyler Robertson (Tiffany), Hayley Harper (Johnnie), Holly Clark, Morgan Clark, McKenzie Clark, Chandler Clark, and nephew Justin Clark, along with great-grandchildren Declan Harper and Robbie George. 


He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Charles Clark, from New Orleans, LA, his mother, Mary Hazel Vidrine, from Ville Platte, LA, and brother, Frederick Armand Hatfield. 

 

With a father in the military, Charlie grew up on the move spending some of his youth abroad in Morocco. Following his dad’s military tradition, he joined the National Guard 141st Washington Field Artillery Battalion New Orleans. In his youth, he developed a passion for sky diving which came in handy when trying to impress his future bride, Carmen, on their first date. Charles and Carmen married in 1962 and remained so for 62 years sharing 4 kids and welcoming 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. 

 

A dedicated officer with the New Orleans Police Department K-9 Unit in the 1960s, Charlie transitioned into a career as a salesman at Temento's Boat Mart in Westwego. Alongside his wife, he was the proud owner of Clark's Hobby & Craft Center in Westwego during the 1970s and later of Westbank Engraving until his retirement in 2020. 

 

Charles was an enthusiastic amateur radio operator (N5UXV), and a member of the Washington Artillery Veterans Association. A Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #15892 he received the Order of St. Louis in 2008.


A memorial honoring his life will be held at 921 Peter’s Road in Harvey, LA, 70058 on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 12:00 pm.
