Charles S. Donewar Sr. passed away peacefully on March 3, 2015 at the age of 84 years. Beloved husband of 61 years to Masie Guidroz Donewar. Father of Charles S. “Chip” Donewar Jr. (Karla), Gregory P. Donewar (Linda) and Barry A. Donewar Sr. (Normi). Grandfather of Krissy St. Pierre (Sidney), Keri Deatrick (Greg), Ross Donewar (Meaghan Hendricks), Barry Donewar Jr. (Kristi Landry), Nick Donewar and Cameron Donewar. Great-grandfather of Colin, Cade, Alyse, Sidney III “Si” and one expectant great-grandchild. Son of the late Albert and Frances Fradella Donewar. Also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Charles was a proud graduate of St. Aloysius High School Class of 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and spent much of his tour of duty in North Africa. He later graduated from Loyola University, New Orleans with his degree in Accounting and worked as an accountant/comptroller for local companies and industry. His heart followed his Church and several organizations of which he was very active. Charles was a charter member, Past Grand Knight and Treasurer of St. Alphonsus Knights of Columbus Council 8054 in McComb, MS and most recently with St. Cletus Knights of Columbus Council in Gretna where he was Past Grand Knight, Treasurer and Past Trustee. He was also a member of the Very Rev. T. J. Larkin Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Italian-American Society of Jefferson, American Legion Post 222 and faithfully attended the Plus 50 Gala of St. Aloysius/Cor Jesu/Brother Martin High School. He also enjoyed sharing a meal with the “Mo Group”. As a longtime National Parks Service volunteer, he and his beloved Masie spent many hours walking the trails and educating the public at the Barataria Preserve of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Charles was a financial guru who loved to watch and work the stock market. He never met a stranger, forgot a name or a face and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 9 AM to 1 PM.
