Charles E. Haynes on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 12:40PM, entered into eternal rest. He was born on June 16, 1924 in Dallas, Texas and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Haynes. He was a resident of Spring Hill, TX when he married his beloved wife of 70 years, Loraine Jane Beasley Haynes. He is survived by his loving children, Charles N. Haynes (Wife Grace) of Gretna, LA; Stephen Haynes (Wife Jenny) of Tyler, TX and Evalee Rushing (Husband Kevin) of Gilmer, TX; Grandfather of Chad Haynes (Wife Stephanie) of Tyler TX, Charles “Flex” Wheeler (Wife Tiffany) of Conroe, TX, Aaron Haynes of Tyler, TX, Philip Haynes of Tyler, TX and Veronica Jane Wheeler of Kilgore, TX. Great-grandfather of Oliver Wheeler. Brother of Catherine Morgan of San Antoino, TX, Vera Sue Schultz of Valdosta, GA and Joel Haynes (Wife Brenda) of Tarzana, CA and the late W.O. Haynes, Jr., J.W. Haynes, Evelene Cupler and Margie Haas. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews. The Haynes family would like to give a special thank you to Alice Mayfield, Willie Davis and the staff of Canon Hospice for outstanding care given. Mr. Haynes graduated from Spring Hill School, where he was an outstanding athlete. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin and a Master’s Degree from the University of Texas. He is a member of the Stephen F. Austin Athletic Department Hall of Fame, State of Texas Athletic Directors Hall of Honor, Hall of Honor at W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX, served as President of the Texas State Athletic Directors and served on Boards of local, state and national athletic and educational associations. Most of his professional life was with the Corpus Christi Independent School district from 1950 until 1982. Mr. Haynes was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific in World War II. Mr. Haynes was an avid golfer and active member and Elder of the Holy Trinity Community Church in Longview, TX until moving to Gretna, LA in 2009. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 10AM until 1PM.
