Charles was born and raised in Gretna. He was married to the former Catherine Ott. They have three children, Charles III (Laurie), Cliff (Angie) and Catherine Grace; four Grandchildren, Alex (Jenae), Charles IV, Emily and Adam; and two Great Grandchildren, Blake and Adalynn. They resided in a restored house in Gretna, which is over a century old. Charlie’s hobby has been buying old buildings, many in run-down condition and remodeling them. Besides his home and other residential buildings he created a commercial row from residential buildings in a re-vitalization project. He also remodeled and restored to active usage a commercial complex at Lafayette Street and Belle Chasse Highway. Charlie’s business background includes 13 years creating and operating a printing firm, 10 years as a motel owner/operator and has been in the travel business since 1974. He currently was owner and operator of Gretna Bingo Palace in Gretna in a building which was reclaimed from neglect. Many of the charitable contributions to the community might not be possible without Gretna Bingo Palace’s ability to attract players. He was also one of the owners of a Truck Stop in Laplace featuring a video poker casino. He was one of the developers of the condos on the Riverfront in Gretna. He was a member and Past President of the Rotary Club of the West Bank with the record of the longest period of perfect attendance-50 years. He was honored by the Rotary Club with a Paul Harris Fellowship as well as the Rotary Civic Award. He was an active member of the Harvey Canal Industrial Association and was honored with a lifetime membership in appreciation for his tireless efforts. He was a member and Past President of the Southeast Region of the American Society of Travel Agents. He was the Charter President of the Jaycees of the West Bank. He was also a member and Past President of the International Association of Travel Executives call Skal. He was a member of the West Jefferson Medical Center Foundation Board. He was a member of numerous other organizations. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 610 6th Street, Gretna, LA on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 10:30AM until 1PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday at 1PM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
