Charles "Chuck" Scroggins

June 1, 1940 — June 6, 2023

New Orleans

Charles “Chuck” Eugene Scroggins was taken to heaven on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, due to natural causes.  He was 83 years old. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Edna Scroggins of Kansas City, Missouri.
He is survived by his companion of over 40 years - Robert Legg; his daughters - Holly S. Donnell (Brian) and Terri S. Hartung (Jeff); five grandchildren - Ben Hartung (Ashley), Kailey Hartung (Jake), Lauren H. Gobert (Corey), Morgan Donnell, and Cameron Donnell;  four great-grandchildren -  Olivia, Hannah, Rylee, and Natalie; sisters - Joyce Fovell of Kansas City, Missouri, and  Jerrie Hoenerhoff (Jim) of South Lyons, Michigan; nephews - Mark and Michael Hoenerhoff;  his former spouse Aline Wyman,   as well as many cousins and friends.
Upon his graduation from Rockhurst High School in Raytown, Missouri, Chuck was honored with an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kingspoint, New York.  After graduating from Kingspoint, he began his career as a Merchant Marine sailing first with Lykes Brothers Steamship Lines as First Mate and then with Delta Steamship Lines where he ultimately worked his way up to the position of Chief Mate.  After years of sailing, he left the sea and became a Marine Surveyor for Hull & Cargo Surveyors so he could spend more time with his family.
When Chuck retired, he became a licensed tour guide in New Orleans. He loved New Orleans and was an avid Mardi Gras fan.  His favorite time of the year was Mardi Gras.  He never missed a parade if he could help it. He became a member/officer of the Krewe of Pegasus and was thrilled to have reigned as King Pegasus XXXVI in 1993.   When the Krewe of Pegasus disbanded, he joined the Krewe of King Arthur and celebrated over 50 years of participating in Mardi Gras.
Chuck loved his family and enjoyed visiting and being with them whenever he could.  He and Bob had many fond memories of their travels abroad.  He will be greatly missed by them.
