Clare Agnes Nolan Coney

July 12, 1922 — June 20, 2014

Clare Agnes Nolan Coney, age 91, native of Algiers, LA, resided 40 years in Texas and California. She was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 20, 2014 in Georgetown, TX, surrounded by loved ones and was at peace. Clare was the 4th born and oldest girl of 7 children. She graduated from Holy Angels High School in New Orleans, LA. She married James Morgan Coney, Jr. December 30, 1944 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. They lived in Gretna, LA until 1964 when they were transferred to Houston, TX and then again to Irvine, CA in 1973. Clare later made the move to Georgetown, TX in 2002, approximately a year following the death of her husband. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years James M. Coney, Jr., baby son Nolan George Coney, parents Norris J. Nolan, Sr. and Nora Donner Nolan, brothers Norris J. Nolan, Jr. and wife Mary Ruth, D. Farrell Nolan, J. Donner Nolan and wife Katherine, and Dr. Alvin W. Nolan. She is survived by her sisters Patricia Nolan Cuyler and husband Sherwood, and Nora Nolan Lambert and husband John D. Jr., her son James Morgan Coney, III, her daughters Kathleen Clare Coney and Karen Coney Mathews and husband Rick, her grandchildren Philip James Battaglia, III and wife Kelly, Michael Nolan White, Kristin Dent Rathbun and husband Ben, and Marissa Mathews Kelly and husband Kirk, and 7 great-grandchildren, Taylor Lamar Battaglia, Zachary Philip Battaglia, Mallory Clare Battaglia, David Austin Rathbun, Ethan James Rathbun, Kanon Margaret Kelly and Clare Anne Kelly; and sisters-in-law Nancy C. Nolan and Martha D. Nolan. Clare was a woman of intense faith that never wavered and loved her family fiercely. She would often be the first person to offer encouragement. Clare enjoyed creating stained glass windows, sewing anything her “girls” requested without a pattern, molding beautiful ceramics and taking all of the “kids” to amusement parks and the beach, neither of which she particularly liked. Why?? Because she was….Mom, Mama, Mother, Momo, that’s why! She is loved by many and she will be missed always. Family and friends are invited to the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Vallette St., New Orleans, LA on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 10:00am until 11:30AM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 400 Verret St., New Orleans at Noon. Interment will be in McDonogh Cemetery, Hancock St, Gretna, LA.
