Coach James “Coach Jimmy” Stubbs entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the age of 75. Beloved husband of 56 years to Nancy Remfry Stubbs. Father of Lynn Stubbs Ory (husband Randall), Stacey Stubbs Swift (husband Robert), Allison Stubbs Robichaux and Scott Stubbs (companion Erin Dempsey and son, Rhys) and the late Mary Kimberly Stubbs and Lisa Ann Stubbs. Grandfather of Amanda Ory, Jason Roland, Christina Swift Lopez, Robert Swift III, Jessica Roland, Lindsey Ory Blanchard, Colby Robichaux, Kelsey Robichaux, Sebestyen Stubbs, Jace Stubbs, Vance Stubbs and Emma Stubbs. Great-grandfather of Braeden Lopez, Jackson Robichaux, Isabella Russo and Emma Lynne Russo. Son of the late Prentiss and Paula Stubbs. Brother of Gene Stubbs and Gloria Lanier. James is a native of Jackson, MS and resided in Gretna, LA for the past 45 years.
Coach Stubbs was educated at Hinds Junior College and earned his B.S. and M.S. Education degrees at McNeese State University. While at Hinds Junior College, Coach Stubbs was a Junior College All-American and was All Gulf State Conference at McNeese State. Coach Stubbs was inducted into the Mississippi Junior College Hall of Fame in 2001.
Coach Stubbs touched the lives of many as an educator and coach. His career spanned 46 years and included De La Salle High School, Archbishop Shaw High School, West Jefferson High School, John Ehret High School, Riverdale High School, where he was the first head football coach, and Ellender Middle School.
Coach Stubbs founded Kidcam Summer Day Camp Programs in 1974 and served his community as an active member of the Westbank Quarterback Club, Kiwanis Club Algiers Morning Edition and the Barataria Fishing Club. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Laura Brinz, and Allene McCann from Guardian Angel Hospice Care for their loving care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
