July 22, 1959 — October 2, 2016

Daniel Paul DeSoto, Sr. passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the age of 57. Beloved husband of Alisa Cannon DeSoto for 31 years. Father of Daniel Paul DeSoto, Jr. Son of Judith Debello DeSoto and the late Wellman Joseph DeSoto. Brother of Charlotte McElwee (the late Byron) and Todd DeSoto. Uncle of Melanie Layssard (Wayne), Brandon McEntyre (Shelly), and Michael Babin (Randi Lyn). Also survived by many other nieces, nephews and friends. Daniel was a lifelong resident of Gretna, LA.
Early in life Daniel worked as a Machinist Maintenance Manager at Hunting Tubular Threading. He owned and operated C & D Automotive and was also a commercial fisherman. Family came first in all that he did. His faith in God sustained him through a long illness with cancer. He had a passion for carpentry often taking scraps of wood and making something beautiful. He enjoyed marksmanship. He became an avid cook and was most happy when he could share it with others. Daniel was cherished and loved by the Love of his life, his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Mothe Funeral Homes, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Burial will take place in Hemphill Star Cemetery, Gardner, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to American Cancer Society, cancer.org.
