Daniel Paul Harris
November 27, 1938 — November 15, 2015
Daniel Paul Harris passed away on November 15, 2015 at the age of 76 years. Beloved husband of 51 years to the late Carol Heck Harris. Loving father of Cathy Koenig (Lennie), Matt Harris (Bonnie) and Mark Harris Sr. (Daisy). Grandfather of Jordan Koenig (Christie), Matt Harris II (Cree), Breann Harris, Theresa Matherne (Matt) and Mark Harris Jr. (Michelle Hill). Great-grandfather of Kerrington Matherne. Brother of Rose Fields, Jack Harris, the late Harry Harris Jr. and Robert Harris. Son of the late Rose Marino Harris and Harry Hale Harris Sr. Also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.
Daniel graduated from Holy Cross High School and served in the Army National Guard at Jackson Barracks. He worked for many years as a route salesman for Sunbeam Bakery and Golden Flake. After his retirement, he worked and later retired as a toll monitor for the Causeway Commission.
Daniel served his Church as an active member and Eucharistic Minister, member and past president of the Holy Name Society and Christ the King Dad’s Club, member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was a volunteer coach of youth sports at Christ the King School and Terrytown Playgound. In recognition for his dedicated service to his Church, Daniel was awarded the Order of St. Louis Medallion. He served his community as a member of Terrytown Lions Club, Theta Club and volunteered at West Jefferson Medical Center.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Tranquil Living, The Lighthouse and Hospice Compassus for their care and compassion.
Donations in his memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society (at Christ the King Church) or to Ozanam Inn ( www.ozanaminn.org ).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Christ the King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Road in Terrytown, LA on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 11 to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
