Darryl James Martinez passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024 at the age of 77. Beloved husband of 52 years to Susan Melancon Martinez. Loving father of Aimee Bourgeois (Jerry) and Mitzi LeBlanc (Jody Aguillard). Grandfather of Beaux Bourgeois, Brennan Bourgeois Richards (Reigh), Mackenzie Bourgeois, Myah Aguillard and Brayden Aguillard. Brother of Merrill Martinez (Nora), Sharon Matherne (Harris “Nunny”), the late Sheila Conrad (Harold) and Alden Martinez Jr. Son of the late Alden Adam Martinez Sr. and Goldie Earline Clement Martinez. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends.
Darryl graduated from West Jefferson High School (Class of 1964) and from Southeastern LA University with his BA in Education. Darryl served his country in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He worked for the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Courts Office for over 50 years, taught Math at Worley Middle School in Westwego for 20 years and tutored students. He was an accomplished bowler, bowling in leagues at Expressway Lanes and later at AMF All Star Lanes. He was a member of the Gretna Sportsman’s Club and the 49’ers Club. He touched the hearts and inspired the minds of so many children in his days that while his passing is sorrowful, his life and legacy will be celebrated.
Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, LA on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 8am to 11am. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated in the funeral home chapel. Interment Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Westwego.
