David E Banks

June 1, 1938 — January 12, 2014

David Elliott Banks, Sr., Port Arthur, Texas native and long time Gretna and Harvey resident, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Jo Ann Martinez Banks for 55 years. Loving father of David, II (Sandra), Murphy (Penny), and Don (Lori). Proud and devoted grandfather of Hanna, Erica, Kasie, Korey, and Kalee Jo Banks; Brother in Law of Sherrilyn and Paul Williams; Uncle of Tara Rodrigue (Emmett), and Troy Williams (Mireille); faithful companion of his dog, Pal. He was preceded in death by his parents Elliott S. and Lula Johnson Banks. Mr. Banks attended Gretna High School and graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1956. He was a parishioner of St. Cletus Catholic Church and former employee of Cameron Iron Works. David loved hunting and fishing with his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family, dear friends and numerous social groups, which included the Wednesday Gathering of the Class of 1955, William D. White No. 408 Masonic Lodge, Gretna Sportsmen’s Club, and Charter Member of the National World War II Museum.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 3600 Claire Ave., Gretna on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Visitation at church from 10:30 am until funeral time. Burial in Hook and Ladder Cemetery, Gretna. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Archbishop Shaw High School (archbishopshaw.org) or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (ovarian.org) in David’s memory.
