David A. Field, USMC (retd.) passed away October 24, 2023, at age 88, after a long life filled with adventure. He was a fun-loving independent spirit, who found humor in all things and never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, never missing an opportunity to do so.
David was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. Early on he knew he wanted to be a soldier and joined the Marine Corps at age 18. He became a career Marine and a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his final posting to New Orleans and retiring from the service in 1975, he remained an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 162 for the rest of his life, serving as both President and Treasurer.
Following his retirement from the service, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans. He enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of participating in the Crescent City Classic and he was a life-long runner. David was an avid walker and enjoyed the treasure hunt of finding coins. These treasures were donated to his favorite charities.
Preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Gilbert Gagnon and partner Gloria Sue Taylor.
Survived by former wife Jean Field, daughters Sandra Lee and Barbara (Kevin) Heath, grandchildren Jonathan Field (Natalie), Emily Heath and Laura (Bryan) Sanchez, and great grandchildren Cameron, Bryan, Sarah, Riley, Gianna and Ophelia sisters Gayle (Gary) Landis, Estelle (Carl) Mercier, Juanita Lund and Elizabeth McNelis, and loving father figure to Randy, Kim and John, their children and grandchildren including a special bond with Kerrby.
