Donna Catherine Bass

Donna Catherine Bass, affectionately known as Cathy, was born on May 12, 1961, and left this world on December 25, 2024. She was a remarkable individual whose contributions in both her personal and professional life left a lasting impact on those around her.

Cathy dedicated her career as a private contractor for the U.S. Naval Reserve Base in Belle Chasse, LA, and Avondale Shipyard, from which she eventually retired. Her commitment to her work was evident, reflecting her strong work ethic and dedication to service.

A proud graduate of L.W. Higgins High School, Cathy’s life was filled with a sense of adventure and passion for nature. 

Cathy’s love story with her husband, Donald Ray Bass Jr., began 35 years ago, fueled by dreams of owning wide open spaces for their cherished horses. Together, they found a beautiful piece of land outside Tylertown, Mississippi, where they could fulfill their dream and create a sanctuary filled with love and laughter. Though he is no longer by her side, his spirit and love continue to resonate in the lives they built together.

Cathy found immense joy in riding horses and participating in rodeos, activities that not only showcased her love for equestrian pursuits but also underscored her adventurous spirit. She had an undeniable affection for animals, believing wholeheartedly that "every stray needed her and every horse needed a friend." She collected animals like Donnie collected his guns. This compassion extended to her cherished pets, whom she lovingly referred to as her children: Patty, Jack, Apollo, Blue, Skeeter-Bug, Junior, Ebony, Sissy, Homer, Romeo, and her late companions, Buddy and Sophie.

Cathy’s legacy continues through her nieces, Brandi Y. Prejean (Seth) and Jamie Y. Urban (Brandon), as well as her nephews, Eric M. Young (Charlene), Ronald J. Young (Whitnee), and Charles E. Young, all of whom carry forward her spirit of kindness and love.

She now rejoins her parents, Ray S. Young and Mary Ann Noe Young, as well as her brothers, James "Mitch" Mitchell, Charles E. Young, and Ronald R. Young, who preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held in her honor on February 22, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both at Marrero - Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC, located at 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA 70072.

Cathy Bass will be remembered as a loving person whose life revolved around family, friends, and the animals she so dearly loved. Her legacy of compassion and dedication to those around her will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
