Donna Marie Pobrica, a life-long resident of Plaquemines Parish, passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 62 following unexpected complications from surgery.
After graduating from Buras High School and the Port Sulphur Vo-Tech School, Donna began her career in 1994 at the Buras Library, where she met her cherished companion, James Morgan, who preceded her in death. After Hurricane Katrina, Donna moved to Belle Chasse in the Evangeline Trace neighborhood where she was embraced by caring and supportive neighbors, much like those in her hometown of Buras.
Donna continued her library career at the Belle Chasse Library where she had wonderful co-workers and a caring boss. Donna was a dedicated employee -- always the first to be at work and found joy in helping her colleagues serve the community. She had a special gift of engaging with children, inspiring a love of reading.
Donna’s warmth and kindness made her a natural at building friendships in her neighborhood and Thursday breakfast gatherings with friends. She also took great pride in her Croatian heritage as a member of the Croatian American Society (CAS). In 2019, Donna became one of the original 12 Kolo dancers at the first annual CAS Festival, a tradition she carried on joyfully with her sister and dance partner, Janie.
Throughout her life, Donna had a generous heart and supported many charities such as Boys Town, Lakota Indians, nature groups of various kinds, and the SPCA. Her love for animals was a defining part of her life, and she leaves behind her treasured cat, “Sunshine,” who will forever miss the “Best Cat MOM Ever.”
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Kate Pobrica, who she lovingly cared for till their deaths in 2020. She is survived by her brother, Andrew Pobrica Jr. (Linda), from North Carolina and her sister Jane Pobrica Tesvich (John) of Nairn. Beloved aunt to Andrea Tesvich Murina (Kristian), Ante Tesvich (Sarah), Marian Tesvich Rogers (Eric), Linaka Norman, Andrew Pobrica III and Joseph Pobrica.
Teta Donna especially doted on her great-nephews and niece, Noah, Luka & Mateo Murina, Stella & Jonah Tesvich, Julian & Elijah Rogers. She is also survived by cousins in the USA, Croatia, and New Zealand.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 10am-1pm at Mothe Funeral Home in Harvey, 2100 Westbank Expressway. Mass will be held in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Croatian American Society, P.O. Box 367, Belle Chasse, LA 70037.
