Doris Spicer Agin (Koshy) passed away from natural causes on February 26, 2024, at her home in Gretna. She fought valiantly against cancer for many years before succumbing. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Alice Westphal Wedekind (nee´ Jacobsen) and Henry Calvin Spicer Jr who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brother Thomas Michael Spicer. She is survived by her husband Iype Koshy whom she was with since 1995. She is also survived by her four sisters Diana Schneider, Bettina Owens, Alice Spicer, Susan Spicer, one brother Henry (Hank) Calvin Spicer III, and multiple adored nieces and nephews. Doris graduated from the American School in Holland and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Tulane’s Sophie Newcomb University and her PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California. She worked as an educational administrator in the California School System before returning to New Orleans to work as an educational psychologist in the Jefferson Parish School System. She spoke fondly about the children she served. She loved animals and will be missed by her dog Bella and cat Frosty. She collected Roseville pottery, cameos, and netsukes and played bridge for fun. Doris always took pride in her appearance and looked much younger than her years. Her sharp, quick wit and adventurous spirit will be missed.
The family suggests that if you would like to contribute in her honor, that it be to either the SPCA, Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans, or your favorite charity.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 17 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at 3640 Lake Lynn Drive in Gretna for family and friends.
