Dorothy Matherne Badeaux

Dorothy Eve Matherne Badeaux, age 94, a beloved native of the Larose/Cutoff community and former resident of Westwego, Louisiana, passed away on April 14, 2024. She was known for her passion for reading, sewing, and storytelling about her favorite flowers and plants. Dorothy’s cooking and family favorites included her famous blackberry dumplings, smothered crabs, jambalaya and oyster dressing.

Born on March 30, 1930, in Cutoff, LA, Dorothy led a life filled with simplicity and cherished her family. Her no-nonsense approach to life endeared her to many. She found joy in the company of her numerous friends and treasured her time spent at the Senior Center in Westwego, LA and the Golden Ages.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her surviving family members: children Karen Kristensen (Keld), Clarence Paul Badeaux (Anna), Dennis Badeaux (Felicia), Christopher Badeaux (Deborah), Elizabeth Sheets (William); grandchildren Jonathan, Thomas, Aaron, Stacey, Mellissa, Dennis, Lance, Dustin, Christopher, Amber, Brandon, Romel, and Nicholas; as well as 27 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Dennis Matherne and Estellina Richard Matherne and her sister Mae Vedros.

 A special thanks to Paul from Visiting Angels, Nurse Aaron and the staff at Our Lady of Wisdom for being with her in her final moments.

A visitation to honor Dorothy's life will take place on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Larose. This will be followed by a Mass at the same location from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The burial service will then be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Larose from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Dorothy's presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace in God’s loving arms knowing that she touched many lives with her bold, quick-witted and feisty French personality.
