Dorothy Leblanc Becnel

Dorothy “Dot” LeBlanc Becnel, age 88, beloved grandmother of Rhonda Danos Guidry passed away suddenly but peacefully at her home on Friday, March 16, 2012. Dorothy, a lifelong resident of the Westbank was born to Richard “Dick” LeBlanc and Lucia Allemond LeBlanc on January 2, 1924. On June 9, 1941 at the age of 17, she married Norman “Bec” Becnel and began a family. Dorothy was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and also attended Masses at St. Rosalie Catholic Church. In earlier years, Dorothy was an Officer of Nu Kappa Rho, a social dance club; a member of The Merry Rogues of Algiers, a carnival club and an avid bowler which in doing so allowed her to travel and see much of the country bowling in tournaments. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Richard; her mother, Lucia; her husband, Norman; and all of her children, Norman Jr., Alfred, Wayne, Arleen and her husband John Pellegal and Pamela Deeters. Also preceded in death by a dear companion, Woodrow “Woody” Thomassie. Dorothy is survived by her loving grand daughter, Rhonda and her fiance’ John Combel, Sr. whom she often referred to as her “Angel”; Rhonda’s father, Emile “Sonny” Danos; Pamela’s husband, Charles Deeters; her only sibling Doris Sullivan; her like-a-sister, Clarabelle Sullivan and many close and dear friends. Dorothy will also be sadly missed by J.J., Arleen’s cat whom she cared for since her death. J.J. is the reason for her name “Granny Dot Meow” given to her by “Lil” Lucy Nieves and Luke and Leo Combel whom will also miss her dearly. Relatives and friends, also employees and patrons of Schnell’s Restaurant and Bar, Lafitte Frozen Foods Corp, Combel’s Customs and members of the Sha Mamere An Chapeau Rouge chapter of the Red Hat Society and the Southern Dammes Red Hat Society are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Monday, March 19, 2012 from 9AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Chapel on Monday at 11AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Information: 504-366-4343.
