Dorothy "Dottie" Cougevan

Dorothy “Dottie” Cougevan entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2024, after a brief illness, with her loving family at her side, at the age of 99. She was born on November 23, 1924, in Labadieville, LA, and was a longtime resident of Terrytown, LA.
 
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William “Bill” Cougevan; her parents Camille LeBlanc and Lillian Blanchard LeBlanc; brothers Herbert and Ellis; sisters Mae Leblanc Callahan Duet, Odile LeBlanc Ellender, and Nancy LeBlanc Ordoyne.  Dottie leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons Patrick (Andrea), Michael (Laura Verlander) and Daniel; a granddaughter, Jennifer Cougevan; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.
 
Prior to marriage, during World War 2, Dottie worked for the U.S. Navy at the New Orleans Port of Embarkation. After the war, Dottie became a flight attendant with Trans World Airways (TWA) in Kansas City, MO, where she met her future husband, Bill. After many years of traveling together, she and Bill settled down in Terrytown in 1962 to raise their family.  For many decades, Dottie was a teacher at Christ the King School and Our Lady of Holy Cross College and was a private reading tutor for children. She devoted her life to her family, childhood education, and gardening. She and Bill were longtime members of the Terrytown Grand Squares Square Dancing Club and supported many community and church organizations. Dottie never lost her gift of curiosity about life and was an inspiration to all who met her. Young at heart, forgiving, compassionate, and always seeing the best in people, she didn’t have an enemy in the world.
 
Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, March 23, 2023 from 10 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna, LA.
