Dorothy Delores Jones Varnado

On February 25, 1939, Dorothy Delores Jones Varnado was born to the late Walter Jones Sr. and the late Caroline Washington Jones in Fernwood, Mississippi and passed away on March 18, 2012.
At an early age, Dorothy was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Fernwood, Mississippi. She was married to the late Reverend Varnado. They were blessed with eight children. Dorothy was a caregiver by profession for many years caring for the elderly. She opened her heart and her home to anyone in need. She enjoyed worshiping, fishing, hand dancing, cooking and baking. Dorothy truly enjoyed socializing with her neighbors. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Upon relocating to Texas, she worshiped at Pilgrim Journey B.C.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories; her beloved Aunt Lillian Washington; two brothers: Walter Jones Jr. and James Jones; four daughters: Donice Marie Jones, Gloria Varnado Jackson (Vincent), Darlene Cooper, Lori Ann Thomas (Benjamin); two sons: Paul Francis Varnado (Lillian) and Tyrone Varnado (Marie); 14 grandchildren: Shalonda Marie Dumas (Channing), Tamica Nicole Cryer (Lionel), Lori Lynn Williams (Alexander), Govenor Reiss, Jr. (Johna), Carla Burse, Sharon Savage, Byron Savage, Abigail Reiss, Erica Smith, Tyrone Varnado Jr., Cedric Varnado, Sasha Varnado and Hanna Thomas; 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister Annell Jones; two sons: Randy Varnado and Raymond Varnado; one grandson: Jonathan Cooper.
Visitation will be held at Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 Westwood Drive in Marrero, Louisiana on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 3 PM until 3:45 PM. Services will follow. Burial will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2012 for 11 AM at Fernwood Community Cemetery in Fernwood, Mississippi. A repast will immediately follow Friday's service at the Roosevelt Mason Center, 6941 Sayer Street in Marrero.
