Douglas J. “Doug” Trauth Sr. entered the gates of heaven on September 22, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was 86. He was the son of the late Noah J. Trauth and Dora Perez Trauth. Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years Mary Allen (Oncale) Trauth, his loving children, Cynthia Petrie (Donald), Brenda Tucker (Hal), Pam Penouilh (Steve) and Doug Trauth Jr. (Lisa), and his sister Lily Duhon. Also, survived by 10 grandchildren, Kourtnie Petrie, Kendle Petrie, Rebecca Brown (Jeff), Stacie Ronquille (Wade), Steve Penouilh Jr. (Kristi), Amber Trauth (Willie), Paul Cantrelle (Kerri), Zachary Cantrelle (Brittany), Chris Lingoni, Lexi Lingoni, 16 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He retired from Union Pacific Railroad where he was a carman for 36 years. He also served as Fire Chief of the Westwego Volunteer Fire Dept for 6 years and was recently honored for 50 years of dedication and his many contributions. He was a reserve police officer for the City of Westwego, past President and longtime member of the YMBC and a 4th Degree member of the OLPS Knights of Columbus Council #3091 and choir.
He was a deeply devoted husband and father who enjoyed family gatherings at his shop, rebuilding old trucks and wood working. He also loved singing in the choir and had a special devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and Blessed Father Seelos. No one was a stranger to him and he offered help to anyone in need.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Westwego Fire & Police departments, Emergency Medical Services and Heart of Hospice. A special thank you to Dr. Carlos Rodriguez, Dr. Sandra Spedale, Dr. Charles Billings and Monique (Dr. Mallik) for their tireless dedication to his care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Westwego, LA on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11 AM. Visitation will be at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Friday evening from 5:30 PM until 9 PM and on Saturday morning from 8 AM until 10:30 AM.
