Edmond "Eddie" Scanlan, Jr.

August 13, 1942 — August 9, 2023

Edmond Thomas Scanlan, known as Eddie to family and friends, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 9, 2023, at the age of 80 in Harvey, Louisiana. He was born on August 13, 1942, in New Orleans. Edmond had a remarkable life, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Edmond is survived by his loving wife, Darryl, and their children: Eddie, Julie, and Tim, who is married to Marideli. He was also a beloved Pawpaw to Katelynn, Daniel (Angel), Christina, Gavin, Timmy (Macie), and Abi. Edmond was blessed with great-grandchildren Aurora, Samuel, Camila, Daniel Jr., and Conor. He was preceded in death by his parents Edmond and Ethel.

Edmond proudly served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1964, as part of the Navy Seabees.  Edmond is a graduate of Holy Cross School, class of 1960.  After starting his career in law enforcement, he continued his education, attending Loyola University of New Orleans, where he received a Bachelor of Criminal Justice.

After his military service, Edmond embarked on a fulfilling career. He dedicated 20 years of his life serving the people of New Orleans as a loyal member of the New Orleans Police Department, reaching the rank of sergeant before retiring. Edmond carried the experience he gained in the Navy and with NOPD, as he became the owner-operator of a Chick-fil-A franchise, where he served the people of New Orleans by feeding them well. 

Edmond found joy and community at St. Martha Catholic Church, where he worshipped and developed lifelong friendships.  Edmond's life will be celebrated at St. Martha Catholic Church, located at 2555 Apollo Ave., Harvey, LA. The visitation will take place on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, with a Mass to follow at 11AM.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA immediately following Mass.  Flowers will be accepted at St. Martha Catholic Church on Monday.  Should you wish to send a donation, please consider sending to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, 1-800-822-6344 or email to donors@stjude.org.

 

Edmond Thomas Scanlan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication to his country, community, and loved ones will forever be remembered.
