Edward Joseph Nelson Sr.

Edward Joseph Nelson, Sr. “Buck” passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Born July 16, 1925 in New Orleans, LA. Beloved husband of Joy Katherine Duchmann Nelson of 59 years. Father of Kitty Prieur (Keith), Janice Krause (Ed), Edward “Eddie Boy” Nelson, Jr. (Alisa), Derek Nelson (Claudia), Becky Gaspard (Kirt), Leslie Ashburn (John), Shelly Nethery (Bruce), and Fritz Nelson (Susan). Son of the late Cornelius Nelson and Alma Meyers Nelson. Brother of Shirley Hogan, Rose Williams, the late Nicholas “Monk” Nelson, John Nelson, Marion Sanders, Alma McLaughlin, Dolores Nelson, and James Nelson. He is preceded in death by 1 step grandchild and 1 step great grandchild. Survived by 16 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 5 step great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Edward was a graduate of S.J. Peters High School. He was in the military as a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine, WWII Army Transportation Service from 1944-1947, Korean War U.S. Air force Staff Sergeant from 1948-1952. Edward was a retired Captain of New Orleans Fire Department Engine 33 for 20 years and a retired electrician. In lieu of flowers donation to the Shrine of Blessed Francis Seelos at www.seelos.org or any charity of choice is preferred. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the parlor of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Vallette Street, Algiers, LA on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1PM. Interment in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Visitation will be Saturday from 10AM until 1PM.
