Edward Joseph Vinet

February 19, 1932 — December 7, 2024

Harvey, LA

Edward Joseph Vinet passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 19, 1932, to the late Estelle Fuchs Vinet and the late William C. Vinet Sr.

He is the husband of the late Gwendolyn Gonzales Vinet, who he was married to for 51 years. He is the father of the late Yvonne Vinet Cheramie (Kurt), Evelyn Vinet Calongne (Edward), and Yvette Vinet Williams (Andrew); the grandfather of Cory Cheramie (Mary), Andrew Williams (Sadie), Anthony Williams, and Jenna Cheramie; and great-grandfather of Bowen Cheramie, Saylor Cheramie, and Weston Cheramie. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Sr. Mary William-Helena Vinet, William Charles “W.C.” Vinet Jr., Winifred “Winnie” Bernadine Vinet Marcell, Francis Xavier "Val" Vinet, John Bernard “JB” Vinet, Mary Marcelline Vinet Waltke, and Laurence Dudley "LD" Vinet. He is also survived by his close friend Dawn Ann Chapman, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.

Ed worked as a bookkeeper at National Medical Care. He also previously worked for Southern Shell Fish Company, and Southern Cotton Oil. Afterwards, he worked for Tulane Kidney Center. Ed was a graduate of St. Stephen's Grade School and the Vincentian Minor Seminary at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He went on to study at St. Mary's College Seminary in Perryville, Missouri where he finished 3/4 of the program studying to become a priest before deciding to depart after much prayer and consultation to come back home to New Orleans and attend Loyola University for Business Administration. He also was a member and employee of the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans.

Edward was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends, singing and playing the piano for them. Edward was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
