Eldred P. “EL” Gilmore, Jr., born February 11, 1931 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Elizabeth Singer Gilmore and Eldred P. Gilmore, Sr. Brother to Joyce Gilmore Theaux (Husband Charles) and the late William John Gilmore. Mr. Gilmore was the husband of 59 years to his loving wife, Althea Oakley Gilmore and father to Eldred C. Gilmore (Wife Darlene), Wayne A. Gilmore (Wife Maria), Darin J. Gilmore (Wife Patricia) and Francine Gilmore Quigley (Husband Michael). Grandfather to 14 and great grandfather to 6. Uncle to Brian Eckert, Starr Eckert Dimpfel (Husband Frederick), Charles Theaux and Wendy Theaux Grijalva (Husband Joe). Also survived many great nieces and nephews. Mr. Gilmore joined the United States Air Force in 1950, discharged in 1954 as Staff Sergeant Senior Radio Mechanic; returning to employment at the Jackson Brewing Company at 621 Decatur Street in New Orleans, LA as Bottle House Worker. The brewery ceased operations in 1973, therefore, Mr. Gilmore who was then Assistant Master Brewer left the Jax Co. for employment at Kraft Company Sealtest Foods Processing Plant as Production Manager from 1973 until 1980, at which time this plant also ceased operations. From 1980 until 1981, Mr. Gilmore was employed under a City of New Orleans Stationary Engineers Certificate. In May of 1981, Mr. Gilmore was hired by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company where he received a commission with The National Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. He functioned as Boiler Inspector until June 1987 during which time he was promoted to New Orleans branch office as Claims Manager responsible for claims activities in five states. He retired February of 1996. Mr. Gilmore was a perpetual member of Germania Lodge No. 46 F&AM for 52 years (Honorary Past Master), a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner with Jerusalem Temple of Destrehan along with a member of International Association Legion of Honor A.A.O.M.S. and Shrine Oriental Band. He was a member of William D. White Masonic Lodge #408 of Gretna and Cervantes Masonic Lodge #5 of Kenner. Mr. Gilmore was a life member of VFW Post No. 3121 of Gretna, LA and a member of American Legion Post 0222 of Marrero. He was also an associate member of Fleet Reserve 162. He was a devoted Husband and Father and we will miss him every day. Some of his favorite times were entertaining and cooking for his friends and spending time with his family. He always brought a smile to your face with his carefree, jovial personality and was able to make a lifelong impression on everyone he met.
