Townsend, Elwin John “EJ,” passed away peacefully into Heaven on November 25, 2013 at his residence with his loving wife by his side. Loving and devoted husband of Madeline Manzella Townsend for more than 56 years. He was born on March 9, 1933 to the late Joseph and Beatrice Townsend. Elwin has been a life long resident of the New Orleans Metro Area. He was 80 years old. He was a caring father to Donna Townsend (Carl), David Townsend Sr. (Dwana) and Diane Gallup (George). Grandfather of Roxanne Petikas, Ryan Gallup, David Townsend, Jr., Brandi Townsend, Whitney Townsend, and Peyton Gallup. Great Grandfather of KaylynnPetikas, Alexis Petikas, Nicholas Petikas, and Madalyn Elizabeth Schnexnayder. Mr. Townsend is also survived by a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. Elwin proudly served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany, he was very patriotic and believed in America and proudly flew the American Flag every day. Elwin was also a supporter and Fan of LSU and an avid reader. He was an employee of Bell South Telephone Company for 40+ years., and Pinkerton Security Services for 30+ years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and son, who enjoyed spending time and making memories with his family. He is best remembered for his love of his family. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 9AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
